Kawandi - Fall (Seasons-1)

Fall is a Kawandi-style handquilt inspired by the colors and feeling of the autumn season. It is made from fabric remnants and stitched completely by hand using traditional Kawandi quilting techniques. The warm colors and hand stitching are meant to remind the viewer of falling leaves and the quiet beauty of fall.

While making this quilt, I was thinking about the season of Fall. But different viewers have seen different things in it. One person said it looked like a Shamiyana — the colorful fabric used for festive tents and pandals in India. Another person said it reminded them of Rangoli — colorful patterns made on the ground during celebrations.

I enjoy hearing these different interpretations. It feels like each quilt creates a personal conversation with the viewer.

This quilt received an Honorable Mention in the Indian Quilts category at the 2021 India International Quilt Festival.
